What is Thread Seal Cord?
Thread Seal Cord Used for Sealing Plumbing Connections. Thread Seal Cord is also known as Pipe sealing cord, PTFE sealing string, Plumbers Tape. It is made of more than 207 micro nylon fiber and is used for sealing pipe threads, lubricating threaded connections and preventing seizing during disassembly.
Thread seal cord is usually supplied on a plastic spool (like the one shown) and is typically very thin and supplied in rolls of about 50 metres/ 80 meters/ 160 meters in length.
Thread Sealing Cord is easy to use. Unlike thread seal tape, there’s no need to try and lay it flat without creases. Just wrap it around and around the thread randomly overlaying the strands. It really is that simple. Start wrapping at the beginning of the thread and wrap forwards (For optimum performance, the grooves of the threads should be filled without completely masking the pitches of the thread). Cut the required length off with the integrated cutting and smooth the loose end onto the pitches of the pipe thread. As far as guidelines go, these are pretty simple too.
6 to 8 wraps for threads up to about 12mm (1/2”) Diameter.
